About Me
Day in, day out, I faced the same challenges; it felt like I was failing at each of them. I was paralyzed by the calling of providing for and raising a family as a husband and dad of two. It was as if my life was stuck in a loop. I was never truly happy at a job; in fact, I felt like I was better off somewhere else. Being a dad was only fun when it was solely on my terms - all other times, my kids were an inconvenience. My struggle with porn addiction almost ended my marriage several times, so my relationship with my wife was turbulent. ...but then one day, God showed me that life could be so much more different and much more beautiful. So after almost 27 years of being a lukewarm Catholic Christian, He invited me back into His arms like the prodigal son I was. He taught me that life was riddled with these challenges, but with Christ, there is hope for overcoming all of them. Amidst the chaos of everyday life, He is peace. As I started to truly learn more about Him, I was led into the path of righteousness; I was led into the devout life. What does it mean to be righteous? What does it mean to be devout? What does it mean to be a husband, a dad, and a servant for the Lord? What does it truly mean to be a follower of Christ? The answers to these questions are found in everyday life. My name is Francis, and in The Layman's Guide to the Devout Life, I explore these topics in the context of our daily joys and trials.
