The importance of showing up and doing your best

Just show up.

So today was the last day of Youth Faith Formation for the year, and I received this from one of my 5th grade students. What's crazy is that a couple of months ago, if you asked me what I thought about teaching YFF I would have told you that I wanted to quit it on the spot.

It's hard teaching kids these days to know and love God. There were so many days where I sat at my dinner table on Saturday nights desperately finding the mental power to finish my lesson for the next day, and I couldn't give you an exact count of how many Sundays I felt like a failure as a teacher. There were so many days where I felt like I was letting God down by not being a good evangelist and communicator.

But you know what, thinking back on it, it was all worth it - and I think the Lord was working at this moment through my student to let me know I did a good job.

Just comes to show that God works with you in your weakness to bring about good. Accept Him in humility, and He'll give you strength and guidance through the rest.

Just show up, do your best (even though it's not your best), and God will make something good out of it.
